biography

Charles Trumbull first encountered haiku in the early 1960s. He didn't do anything serious with that discovery, however, until about 1991, when he and a group of friends began writing poetry -- literally on a bet. Finding that he could not sustain a poetic thought much beyond a breath-length, he settled on haiku as his medium. Charlie was a founder of Chi-ku, the Chicago-area haiku group, and edits the newsletter of the Haiku Society of America. Charlie was involved in the planning of Haiku North America, Chicago, 1999 and is the proprietor of Deep North Press, a small publishing house for haiku books. He works in the editorial department of Encyclopaedia Britannica and lives in Evanston, Illinois.
