biography

A life-long writer, Peggy Heinrich began exploring haiku twenty-five years ago. Her haiku have appeared in almost every haiku journal here and in Japan, from the early days of Dragonfly to the more recent webzines. Her mini-chapbook, A Patch of Grass, was published in 1984 by High/Coo Press and is now out of print. From 1981 to 1983, she served as treasurer for the Haiku Society of America.

Peggy's longer poems have appeared in many small magazines and university press. She was editor of Connecticut River Review from 1985-87,

Hackett, judge) 1994; Hawaii Educationn Assn., 16th Annual International Haiku Contest, 3rd prize & Hon. Men., Season Word category; Hon. Men., Humorous category, 1994; J. Franklin Dew Award, Poetry Society of Virginia, 3rd Prize, 1989; Japan Air Lines Contest, runner-up, 1988; Western World Haiku Society, 1974, 1979, 1980; and Gustave Keyser award, best haiku, Dragonfly, Feb. 1975.

chapbooks, books, collections, & anthologies

A chapbook of Peggy's poetry titled Sharing the Woods was published in 1992 by Old Sandal Press. Her book for children, Forty-four Freckles, a story in verse, was published by Longmeadow Press in 1995. She also writes articles and plays, and her opera for children The Magic Pendulum, with music by Harold Littledale, was produced in 1999 by Crystal Theater of Connecticut.
