    Please enjoy haijinx IV:1, our first issue of 2011 and perhaps the largest and most vibrant issue of haijinx so far.

    Including special sections and the news, there are over 200 poems from over 50 poets in this issue. The main section consists of 25 pages of haiku, 8 of haibun & 4 of haiga. There’s 6 pages of news, three haikai articles, four reviews & a multi-part special on NaHaiWriMo. Art from kris moon throughout.

    Contributors to this issue include Don Baird, Helen Buckingham, Marjorie Buettner, Ellen Compton, Cherie Hunter Day, Frank Dullaghan, Curtis Dunlap, Lorin Ford, Carolyn Hall, Michele L.     The Haiku Foundation is pleased to announce the winners of the HaikuNow! International Haiku Contest 2010.

    The judges for our first contest were Billy Collins (Traditional) and Jim Kacian (Contemporary and Innovative). In addition to the 1st place winners, who each received $100, the judges also chose 4 runners-up ($25 each), as well as other noteworthy poems.

    Japan-EU English Haiku Contest

    Award

    A winner will be notified by email and announced at the occasion of a Joint Press Conference of the 19th Japan-EU Summit meeting to be held in Tokyo. The winner will be offered a round-trip* to Matsuyama City of Japan and a stay in a Japanese style hot spring hotel (in Dogo Onsen) associated with Haiku. Matsuyama City is considered to be the center of modern Haiku in Japan.

    Restrictions

    The contest is open to the public of nationals of EU member states or Japan who are currently residing in the EU or Japan.

    Original, previously unpublished haiku referring to some aspect of Japan and Europe should be submitted in the English language. Keeping in mind that haiku is considered to be the shortest poem in the world, submitting haiku with a length of three lines is recommended (however, up to four lines or fewer than three are acceptable). Seasons words are not essential.

    2010 Haiku Pen Contest

    Deadline: email or postmarked by June 15, 2010. deadline extended from April 15th

    Entry fee: $2/haiku or $7 for 5 via PayPal or snail mail

    Judges: The names of the judge(s) will be announced with the winners.

    Only previously unpublished haiku poems accepted. Seeking high quality haiku poetry. There is no theme for this contest. Please type “Haiku Pen” in subject line to avoid deletion. Enter as often as you like by email (no attachments please) or by snail mail and you can make 1 total payment by paypal, US check or US money order. If entering by snail mail, please provide one entry with contact information and one anonymous entry (only the poems). All contact information will be removed from entries for judging. Snail mail entries must be postmarked by June 15, 2010 to qualify.

    Note: Please do not send snail mail entries now, office is moving.

    The HSA Bernard Lionel Einbond Renku Competition

    The Haiku Society of America sponsors this annual award for renku of 36, 20, or 12 stanzas.

    From the contest page:

    Deadline: In hand by April 30, 2010. Entries received after that date will not be accepted.

    Entry fee: $10 must accompany manuscript. Please make checks/money orders payable in U.S. funds to “Haiku Society of America.”

    Judges: The names of the judge(s) will be announced with the winners.

    For the purpose of this contest, a renku may consist of 36, 20, or 12 stanzas (kasen, nijûin, junicho or shisan forms) written by two or more persons, each of whom contributes a substantial number of individually authored stanzas. Any particular author may appear in no more than three different renku entered. Entries must be in English. Entries must not have been pre-viously published, nor contain any stanzas previously published, submitted for publication, nor entered in any other contest. Publication is defined as an appearance in a printed book, magazine, or journal (sold or given away), or in any online journal that presents edited periodic content. The appearance of poems in online discussion lists or personal Web sites is not considered publication. Judges will be asked to disqualify any link that they have seen before.
